USA’s top tennis start to return to court next month. She will face the Netherlands in North Carolina. It will be her first game after becoming a mother of a daughter Olympia in September.
She gave birth to a girl. Her delivery came with some complications where she has suffered a hemorrhage at the site of her C-section stitches. She continued to work out during much of her pregnancy.
Last time she played was in January 2017 where she came out as a champion. She faced her elder sister Venus William in the finals and won. The finals scored recorded was 6–4, 6–4.
Serena Williams was previously scheduled to return to the court during the Australian Open to defend her title that she won during 8-week pregnancy. But she withdrew almost couple of week before the tournament. The decision was taken when she lost a match against French open champion Jelena Ostapenko.
She said in a statement that,” “After performing in my first match after giving birth I realized that although I am super close I’m not where I personally want to be,” Williams announced on Jan. 4.
Top-Ranked Simona Halep, Elena Vesnina, and Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki are set to play. Other entries are Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza, Sloane Stephens, Karolina Pliskova, Madison Keys and Coco Vandeweghe.
From men’s aspect, defending champion Roger Federer will move for his 6th tournament title. Novak Djokovic also has won five instances and is entered in conjunction with Rafael Nadal, Grigor Dimitrov, Juan Martin del Potro and Stan Wawrinka.
